After a morning briefing on the Algarve, your route programme and your (electric) bicycle, you will start your holiday with a gentle ride, following quiet country roads to the little town of Guia. Guia is fondly referred to as the ‘Capital of Chicken Piri Piri’, so it is the ideal place to sample this local speciality before returning to Albufeira for an afternoon relaxing on the beach.
Day 3: route 2: Maritur – Fonte louzeiros / Silves, 40/59km
Today you will follow a scenic route through the unspoilt Algarvean countryside, passing through farmland and orange groves, until you reach the town of Silves. An enchanting town on the banks of the Rio Arade, Silves is steeped with history and was once the Moorish capital and home to the best preserved castle in the Algarve.
Day 4:Route 3: Alvor – Maritur ,45km
A large part of the impressive Algarvean coastline can be enjoyed by following the ‘Ecovia do Litoral’ a dedicated cycling route. Today we will transfer you to the picturesque fishing village of Alvor, from where you can spend the day making your way back to Albufeira via the coastal towns of Praia da Rocha, Portimão, Ferragudo, Lagoa and Armação de Pêra.
Day 5:Route 4: Maritur–Alte, 46/64km
The Algibre river valley is ideal for cycling, offering you the opportunity to experience rural life close up from the quiet country roads. Your destination for today is the town of Alte, which is known as the most typical village in the Algarve. Famous for its white painted houses and fresh water springs, the year round presence of water in the river adds a certain unique charm.
Day 6:Route 5: Loulé – Maritur, 36km
Today you will visit the old market town of Loulé. Loulé is an explorer’s haven, with its narrow cobbled streets leading off the central Avenida, tiny shops and hidden away bars and restaurants. The weekly market attracts tourists from all along the Algarve, and you will have plenty of time to take in the sights and sounds of this bustling town before you make your way along quiet roads back to Albufeira.
Day 7:Route 6 Maritur, Porches , 38km
On your last day you can simply choose to take the day at leisure, in Albufeira town or on the beach. But if you are still raring to go, you can cycle to Porches, home of the traditional Algarvean pottery.
